On Workshop Sunday, visitors can learn new skills or immerse themselves in the world of renowned designers. Everyone is welcome - regardless of experience or previous knowledge. The four- to seven-hour skills workshops offer participants an introduction to a new program, working method, or area of expertise. The 'work like' workshops offer space for experimentation and close dialogue with the workshop leaders. A networking lunch is also offered.

Work like Chloé Pannatier / ENG / 9:30 – 17:00 / 20 People
This workshop will take the poster as a site of experimentation. Merging analog approach with digital processing, participants will explore visual sampling and experiment around noise and rhythm in a visual and synesthetic approach. Working from raw material, we will see how we can transform apparent accidental moments into intentional design.

Chloé Pannatier is a graphic designer based in Lausanne. With projects mainly rooted in culture, she creates identities in the fields of architecture, music, and contemporary art among others. Her practice of creating sensory imagery coexists with the precision of typographic conception stemming from the Swiss design tradition.

Work like Eurostandard / ENG / 9:30 – 17:00 / 20 People
Based on the principle of (ITO) Input → Transformation → Output → (Feedback) in the context of visual creation, this workshop centers on the research conducted by the Eurostandard collective, which aims to examine how we perceive and produce visual content today. This workshop will be a playground for visual experimentation and serve as the foundation for a collaborative experiment.

Eurostandard is the name of our common design practice. We studied Graphic Design in Switzerland and grew up between CH and FR. In our daily practice, we work within the cultural field with other designers, artists, institutions, or researchers. We try not to repeat what we have already experienced. We see graphic design as a tool for exchange and communication; we strive to highlight and foster connections between people by experimenting and combining all the elements at our disposal to create specific visual languages. We cherish the idea of experimenting with different tools and approaches.

Work like Monica Müller / ENG / 9:30 – 17:00 / 20 People
Who creates the symbols that shape public opinion? In this workshop, participants will design a visual language for a cause they believe in—or one that has yet to find its voice. Through posters, banners, coding, editorial design, interactive design and other forms of graphic communication, we will explore how design can challenge dominant narratives, build collective identities, and transform ideas into symbols that people can carry, share, and act upon.

Monica Müller is a designer based in Switzerland working in the field of graphic and visual communication, with a focus on editorial design, visual identity, and data visualization. Her practice revolves around the development of visual systems, publications, and printed matter for cultural institutions, socio-cultural projects, educational initiatives and festivals. Trained at ECAL in Lausanne, she has collaborated with Swiss and Italian studios and works across different cultural contexts, including as a designer for the Locarno Film Festival. She currently works as a graphic designer at CCRZ.

Work like Anna Wacławek / ENG / 9:30 – 17:00 / 20 People
Landscape is the layout. Excercises in graphic design through worldbuilding. – In this workshop we’ll try to explore how perception of our surroundings can translate into designs. We’ll think of the ways to look more carefully, catch wider perspectives, collect the views, textures and translate them into a message. We’ll try few exercises with image making and type, and put our ponderings into a zine-poster format.

Anna Wacławek (b. 1996.07.10, in Gdańsk, Poland) - graphic artist and designer with special love for paper matter. She holds Master's Degree in Graphics, done at E. Geppert Academy of Art and Design in Wrocław. She's interested in materiality, geology, social design and music. She likes to think that everything is slightly connected.

Express Posters with Studio Bollo / ENG / 9:30 – 17:00 / 14 People
As time for design and delivery is always limited in a graphic designer’s practice, this workshop focuses on the daily challenge of quickly creating expressive design work while communicating a clear message. To achieve visual impact, you will learn how to use typography as a powerful tool to capture attention through rhythm, repetition, distortion, collage, and boldness. Finally, the goal is to create a collection of typographic experiments presented as a poster series.

Tobias Bolliger, known as Bollo, is the founder and creative director of Studio Bollo. His interdisciplinary design practice operates at the intersection of graphic design, music, art, and culture, creating visual identities, posters, artworks, websites, and typefaces. His work focuses on experimental typographic arrangements and kinetic design systems in interaction with sound. In this context, he understands graphic design as both an applied communicative practice and a form of contemporary expression. The work of Studio Bollo has been published by Slanted Publishers and Spector Books. The studio has lectured at the Bern University of the Arts and the Basel Academy of Art and Design, and has been featured in an interview with It’s Nice That. Selected works have been presented at Kunsthalle Bern and the Museum für Gestaltung Zürich, and have received the Art Book Prize Œuvre d’Artiste.

«Let's get your poster moving!»  (After Effects) mit Simone Hörler / DE / 9:30 – 17:00 / 14 Personen

Voraussetzung: Grundkenntnisse in After Effects (du kannst Keyframes setzen, weisst was Easing ist und hast schon mal einfache Bewegungen animiert)

Mitbringen:

  • Mindestens 1920 × 1080 Pixel, 72 dpi,  Hochformat

HY5 Bridging Creat[L]ive Coding Tools with Ted Davis / ENG / 13:00 – 17:00 / 14 People
Using P5LIVE, we'll dive into creative coding with p5.js in a live coding environment, generating fullscreen visuals in the web browser. We'll explore the expressive sum by combining p5.js with Hydra (another visual framework), using HY5, to pass graphics between the two libraries for the best of both worlds!

Ted Davis (CH/US) is a media artist / designer / educator / tool-maker based in Basel, Switzerland. Since 2010 he teaches interaction design within the Institute Digital Communication Environments IDCE, Basel Academy of Art and Design HGK FHNW. His open source projects (basil.js, XYscope, P5LIVE, HY5, p5.glitch) enable designers to program within Adobe InDesign, render vector graphics on vector displays, collaboratively live code visuals with p5.js, and glitch any media in real-time within the web browser.

In this workshop, you will learn how to approach motion design with a playful, exploratory mindset: breaking rules, embracing accidents, and creating without boundaries. Together, we will learn how to build motion experiments around a specific topic. This workshop is designed for those who already know After Effects but want to find new ways of starting a creative process. Coming from different creative backgrounds and ways of working, we'll bring a range of perspectives to the workshop.

Eleonora Bonorva is a Swiss motion designer at Studio Dumbar/DEPT® with a strong focus on experimental design. With a background in graphic and interaction design, she merges her technical expertise with creative vision to create unique visual experiences.

Débora Linhares is a Brazilian motion designer at Studio Dumbar/DEPT®. With a self-taught background, she has a love for character animation and for exploring how small details in movement can bring personality into design. She enjoys experimenting with playful ideas and finding ways to make motion feel more natural, engaging and human.
